Director

Dr. Terry Tin-Yau Wong
I obtained my Ph.D. in Educational Psychology in Department of Psychology, the University of Hong Kong. I had been working in the Education University of Hong Kong as an Assistant Professor before I re-join the University of Hong Kong in 2018. My research focuses on children’s numerical development. For instance, I am interested in how children understand different arithmetic principles (e.g., is A – B = B – A?) as well as the cognitive profiles of children with dyscalculia. I am also interested in other aspects of cognitive development, such as analogical reasoning, logical reasoning, scientific thinking, etc.
Postgraduate Students

Mr. Kato Cheung
I am Kato, a Ph.D. in Psychology student supervised by Dr. Terry Wong. I am also the founder of RECKO Technology Consultant Limited and The General Association of Hong Kong Special Educational Needs Limited. My interests are to integrate psychology and technology to create sustainable environments or tools in Hong Kong and raise social awareness of mental health and psychology. Currently, I am interested in developing an application that provides a list of gamified spatial training and how it can enhance students’ Mathematics performance.
Mr. Charles Yip
I did my undergraduate in Applied Mathematics at HKUST and an MSc at CUHK. I also studied Psychology at the EdUHK and now I’m studying PhD with Dr. Terry Wong!
I have been working with students with learning disabilities and their families since I graduated from the psychology program. It feels great to integrate my interests in math and psychology, to help students learn math with psychology!
Ms. Jiahe Wang
I completed my bachelor’s degree at Vanderbilt University, where I double majored in Psychology and Cognitive studies, with a minor in Data Science. I’m particularly interested in how children behave and learn in gamified platforms.
Currently, I’m working with Dr. Terry as a PhD student, on a project exploring the role of negative number learning in children’s mathematical achievement and its connection to broader aspects of cognitive development.
Research Assistant
Mr. Lucas Yue
Hello, this is Lucas with a Bachelor of Psychology here at HKU (the very first cohort of graduates of this degree~). You might have seen me around this lab as I was one of the many interns before. Can’t wait to meet all of you and do share some interesting ideas with me if you are also into our field!
Ms. Christina Ng
I earned my master's degree in psychology after finishing my bachelor's degree in theoretical physics in London. I am a huge science nerd--so please fill me in on any interesting science facts!
