Cognitive Development Laboratory
OUR TEAM
DIRECTOR
Dr. WONG Terry Tin-Yau
I obtained my Ph.D. in Educational Psychology in Department of Psychology, the University of Hong Kong. I had been working in the Education University of Hong Kong as an Assistant Professor before I re-join the University of Hong Kong in 2018. My research focuses on children’s numerical development. For instance, I am interested in how children understand different arithmetic principles (e.g., is A – B = B – A?) as well as the cognitive profiles of children with dyscalculia. I am also interested in other aspects of cognitive development, such as analogical reasoning, logical reasoning, scientific thinking, etc.

ALUMNI
Chloe LEUNG
Hello, I am Chloe, a MPhil student supervised by Dr. Terry Wong. I am interested in finding better ways to help children learn maths and would like to investigate some intervention programmes that help children to improve their math performance. Currently, I am developing an app for school-age children to play with, in order to enhance their number magnitude, operations knowledge, and arithmetic performance. Moreover, I am also interested in the aspect of Cognitive Development, like spatial ability and executive functioning.
Elaine TANG
Hi, I am Elaine, a PsyD student supervised by Dr. Terry Wong. I am currently a practising educational psychologist (EP) in school settings. Before my career as an EP, I was a Math teacher in both primary and secondary settings. During my teaching years, I encountered a number of students having huge difficulties in Math and their learning profiles resembled those with dyscalculia. The teaching experience enlightens me to conduct research on topics related to dyscalculia in the hope to develop evidence-based intervention strategies to facilitate students’ Math learning.
